Topic 1: The Greatest Threat To Global Security: Climate Change Is Not Merely An Environmental Problem – 3 degrees warmer

Our darkest worries regarding the bodily effects we face have been confirmed by recent scientific research, which in some cases has even exceeded them. The effects of climate change are becoming more evident, and they touch on almost every aspect of the security agenda. Flooding, disease, and starvation, which cause massive migration in already tense areas; drought and crop failure, which exacerbate competition for food, water, and energy in areas. In a world that is becoming more interconnected and unstable, social security rather than limited national security is at issue. Unfortunately, the most defenseless and least equipped to handle the blow will be struck first once more. Without the former, there is no option between combating poverty and maintaining a stable environment. Delegates will intervene to find a solution in this situation. Let us avoid the 3 degree world before it’s inevitable, more must be done.

Topic 2: Chemicals in products: Harming the environment and people

Although waste and chemicals are a part of daily existence, poor handling of them can have negative effects on human health and the environment. Chemicals play a significant role in many of the goods that the modern world depends on. However, at any point in the product’s life cycle, hazardous chemicals could be released, resulting in possible environmental and human exposures, from newly manufactured goods to those that are already a part of society.  Through multilateral environmental agreements, nations are actively addressing issues with pollution of the air, land, and water, as well as exposure to dangerous chemicals. Delegates must encourage policies and investments that reduce risks from chemicals to both health and the environment.
